SPIDER-NOIR
Spider Noir is an alternate version of Spider Man from Marvel Comics who exists in a dark and gritty universe inspired by the 1930s Great Depression era. He first appeared in the comic book series Spider Man Noir published by Marvel in 2009. This version of the character was created by David Hine and Fabrice Sapolsky, with art by Carmine Di Giandomenico. Unlike the traditional Spider Man Peter Parker who lives in a modern colorful New York, Spider Noir lives in a bleak black and white world filled with crime corruption and hardship.
In this universe Peter Parker is a young man living in New York during the Great Depression. He is raised by his Aunt May who runs a shelter for the poor and unemployed. Instead of being bitten by a radioactive spider created in a science lab, he is bitten by a mystical spider that emerges from an ancient idol hidden in a warehouse. The bite gives him enhanced strength agility and the ability to cling to walls similar to other Spider Man versions. However his personality is more serious and hardened due to the harsh environment around him.
Spider Noir wears a dark trench coat gloves boots and a mask with goggles giving him the look of a classic detective from old crime films. He uses more grounded weapons such as pistols in addition to his web abilities which makes him different from many other versions of the character. His enemies include crime bosses and corrupt officials rather than colorful supervillains.
The character gained wider popularity after appearing in the animated film Spider Man Into the Spider Verse where he was voiced by Nicolas Cage. Spider Noir represents a darker more mature take on the classic hero showing how the same character can be reimagined in different times and styles while keeping his core sense of justice intact.
