SUPERGIRL
Supergirl is a major superhero in DC Comics, best known as the cousin of Superman and one of the last survivors of Krypton. Her real name is Kara Zor-El, and she was originally sent to Earth to protect baby Kal-El. However, due to her spacecraft being delayed, she arrived years after him—finding that her little cousin had already grown into Superman. This reversal created one of her defining traits: she possesses similar powers to Superman but struggles more with adapting to Earth, making her a character who often balances immense strength with emotional vulnerability.
Kara has superhuman abilities including flight, heat vision, super strength, X-ray vision, and near invulnerability, all fueled by Earth’s yellow sun. Unlike Superman, she remembers life on Krypton vividly, which often makes her feel like an outsider trying to reconcile her alien heritage with her human experiences.
Over the decades, Supergirl has been portrayed in many forms. In comics, she has had several storylines involving heroism, sacrifice, and self-discovery. On television, the most well-known adaptation is the CW’s “Supergirl” series (2015–2021), where actress Melissa Benoist portrays Kara Danvers—a determined journalist balancing her everyday life with her responsibilities as a hero.
